KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Today is Arbor Day, the day each year when the nation celebrates trees.
While no one will be getting a day off work to celebrate, it is one of those holidays that has been around for a very long time – over 150 years.
The city of Kalamazoo will honor the 56th city commission by planting a tree in Bronson Park at noon today.
Cohen Sutter of the Portage Youth Advisory Council says they are honoring Arbor Day with two events his year.
“We planted a tree out front of City Hall that was taken out by we planted a tree out front of City Hall that was taken out by the tornado, we are having the Greenathon and we’re going to be planting some trees feel free to stop by it’s going to be a lot of fun.”
Also on May 4th, they will also be giving away seedlings at a booth at the opening day of the Portage Farmers Market at Portage City Hall.
