KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – An arrest has been made in connection with the fatal hit-and-run crash in March along South Westnedge Avenue.
The Kalamazoo Department of Public safety says 29-year-old Darqareoin Damont Mills was taken into custody in Haywood County, Tennessee on outstanding warrants issued by the Kalamazoo County Office of the Prosecuting Attorney April 29. The warrants charge Mills with second-degree murder and failure to stop at the scene of an accident causing death.
The United States Marshals Service took Mills into custody following a coordinated investigation involving the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety and the Michigan Department of Corrections Absconder Recovery Unit.
KDPS says Mills waived extradition this morning and is expected to be transported back to Kalamazoo, where he will face arraignment on the listed charges.
The arrest stems from the March 25 incident in which 52-year-old Mark McBride was struck and killed in the 1200 block of South Westnedge Avenue. The suspect vehicle fled the scene following the crash.
