HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Allegan County Fair continues today.
Among those with fond memories of the fair who continue to support it is Allegan County First District Commissioner Dean Kapenga.
“We raised sheep and we raised steer,” Kapenga said. “I can remember those days camping there, being with our club, our kids, just hanging out there all the time. We had the best memories of that place.”
Among today’s events:
- 9 a.m. Youth shows: swine; open-class draft horse and draft-mule cart hitch contests; open-class harness pony and mini-mule cart-hitch.
- Noon: Harness horse race at the grandstand. Free.
- 4 p.m. Youth rabbit show
- 7 p.m. Parade at the grandstand. Doors open at 6:30. Free.
“When I was with the sheriff’s department I had the pleasure of doing security for it,” Kapenga said, recalling farm families and fair fans, “eating the elephant ears and all the different things that are there, just having a blast.”
The Allegan County Fair runs through Sept. 18, 2021, at the Allegan County Fairgrounds in Allegan. Details at allegancountyfair.com.
