LANSING (WKZO AM/FM) — The deadline has passed for entries into the Great Lakes Invasive Carp challenge, a contest to find innovative solutions to keep the voracious invasive species from getting out of the Mississippi river and into the big lakes.
The State of Michigan has received over 350 proposals from 27 countries, which will be reviewed by a panel of expert judges and eight of them will split half-a-million dollars in prize money in February.
Tammy Newcomb with the Michigan DNR says they are looking for out-of-the-box thinking, by experts in other fields who may bring some new thinking to the problem.
The 8 finalists picked in February will be given an opportunity to present their ideas to a panel of experts and venture capitalists for a share of another half million in prizes at a live event in Detroit in March.
