KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) –Tuesday is a primary, and that means the rules are a little different.
Once they hand you the ballot you will have to pick a party and only vote either as a Republican, a Democrat, or for the first time on a Michigan ballot, you will also have the opportunity to pick between Libertarian candidates.
There are also non-partisan decisions to make. In Kalamazoo County, the creation of a millage to support seniors is on the ballot county wide. That may be on the back side of your ballot so don’t forget to flip it over.
In Allegan County, there are a few county-wide issues and a number of local school, library, road and public safety issues on the ballot. Other counties will have their own issues to settle.
All voters will be picking between party candidates for Governor and some for U.S. Senate and House candidates and State Senate and House candidates, and in Kalamazoo County for your district County Board seat. Many may be running unopposed.
Most counties in the area have made the switch too new voting equipment, and while that may not change your experience in the polling place, it will make counting the ballots easier and will reveal instantly if you have made a mistake on your ballot which would invalidate your vote. They will give you another chance.
