BATTLE CREEK (WKZO AM/FM) — Three people are in custody after a Battle Creek woman was shot and injured but not the intended target in the incident.
First responders were called to the area of West Goguac Street and South Washington Avenue around 11:45 a.m. Tuesday after reports that someone had been shot in the back.
They discovered the 27-year-old gunshot victim on the front porch of a home in the 90 block of West Goguac Street conscious and talking with officers and giving them suspect information.
She was rushed to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police were then led to a home on Arthur Street and found the suspect’s abandoned getaway car.
Surveillance videos showed that the gunman got into a different vehicle and he was located traveling westbound on I-94.
The Michigan State Police 5th District Fugitive Team and Highway Team arrested the two men, both 23-years-old from Battle Creek, minutes after they were located.
A 24-year-old Battle Creek man that was thought to be the actual target in the shooting was located and arrested on unrelated charges including possession of a stolen firearm.
Investigators say the 3 men were arguing when one of the suspects pulled out a gun attempting to shoot the 24-year-old but instead hit the woman. The 24-year-old also returned fire but missed the two.
The guns were recovered and all three were arrested.
