BURLINGTON TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – A 66-year-old Union City woman was killed while a 33-year-old man from Battle Creek was injured Friday morning in a Calhoun County head on crash that police say took place after the man swerved to avoid an animal in the road.
The accident happened at about 9:30 a.m. near the intersection of 8 Mile Road and U Drive South in Burlington Township just north of Union City.
The names of the victims have not been released by the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene while the man was taken to Bronson Battle Creek for treatment.
The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department says the Battle Creek man’s van was in a curve in the road when he swerved to avoid the animal. His vehicle then went into the opposite lane of traffic and collided head on with the vehicle being driven by the Union City woman.
The Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi and Burlington Township Fire Department assisted Calhoun County deputies.
