MARSHALL, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – While some communities have decided to keep medical marijuana facilities out and some others are keeping them on a tight leash, others like the City of Marshall are embracing them as a source of jobs and tax revenue.
Marshall’s Planning Commission has given the green light to a large medical marijuana firm that will locate their headquarters, a research and development operation and a large growing and processing facility in the Brooks Industrial Park.
The company, which calls itself Michigan Pure Med, would then transport product to dispensaries in Kalamazoo, Detroit, Flint, Grand Rapids and other Michigan towns. The firm says it plans to create 400 jobs. It’s all subject to state approval of their licenses, a process that is going grindingly slow in Lansing.
They are the fifth firm to seek city approval for growing and processing operations in the City of Marshall.
The Quincy Village Council will re-visit the medical marijuana issue during a public hearing next Tuesday night.
