PAW PAW (WKZO AM/FM) — There was a day when a police officer had a gun, a pair of cuffs and a baton hanging from their belts.
These days’ officers have enough stuff on their utility belts to make Batman jealous.
There is communications gear, mace, a Taser, flashlights, keys, window punches and extra ammo.
Beginning this week, Van Buren County Detectives will also have tourniquet holsters, thanks to W-MED and the Eric Zapata Foundation.
The life-saving devices can be quickly applied to a bleeding limb to stop the bleeding, something that needs to be done quickly in an emergency situation. The donation of 71 of the holsters is a cost savings to tax payers of right around $2500.
