COLDWATER TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – A 42-year-old man is lodged in the Branch County Jail pending arraignment after he was arrested for allegedly threatening to kill his mother with a hunting knife late Thursday night and holding the woman against her will.
Michigan State Police say the incident took place in the 400 block of River Road in Coldwater Township.
Troopers say besides threatening to kill her, the man allegedly kept her from leaving the residence for several hours.
The son also took his mother’s cell phone in order to keep her from dialing 911. The mother was able to escape by convincing the son that she needed to go to the hospital.
The son accompanied her to ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital for treatment of his self inflicted knife wound. While at the hospital, the mother called the police to report the assault.
The son was arrested following an investigation for Felonious Assault with a weapon, Unlawful Imprisonment and interference with electronic communication.
