COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A man accused of setting fire to a shed on Chippewa Drive in Sherwood Township after being told by his landlord last July that he and his wife were being evicted was sentenced Monday in Branch County Circuit Court.
40-year old Derek Duane Wilson entered no contest pleas to charges of fifth degree arson and possession of less than 25 grams of a controlled substance.
Possession of methamphetamine and third degree arson counts were dismissed in exchange for the pleas.
Wilson was given concurrent 11 month jail sentences with 125 days credit for time already served. He also placed on probation for 18 months, which will be completed at the Twin County Probation Center in Three Rivers.
The Sherwood Township Fire Department had to be called in to put out the blaze.
