COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch County Sheriff John Pollack told the County Board of Commissioners during their Thursday work session that his department has piled up an excessive amount of overtime in the past week, due mostly to an inmate who has behaved aggressively.
Pollack said they had to reduce night patrol hours from 40 to 24 last weekend because of this inmate.
The Sheriff said psychiatric services were unable to quickly and efficiently place the male inmate in a facility that can handle and treat his “aggressive behavior”.
Pollack said this type of inmate is becoming more and more the norm, and they should not be in the jail.
According to Pollack, two officers have to watch the inmate all the time. He said 24 of the 112 hours of overtime will come out of road patrol. The rest will come out of the corrections budget.
