QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – There will be a one year moratorium on recreational marijuana licenses in Quincy following action by the Quincy Village Council Tuesday night.
Quincy Village Manager Eric Zuzga recommended the adoption of a moratorium until a discussion can be held on the subject. Zuzga said in his report for the meeting that the moratorium will give the Council time to consider the options and prevent anyone from using the newly passed statute to open an operation.
While Michigan voters approved Proposal One which legalizes recreational marijuana by nearly a half million votes on Election Day, Branch County voters turned it down by about 800 votes.
In other business, returning Village Council members Wendy Salyer, Nick Loomis, & Casey Bassage along with new member Laura Loomis were sworn into office.
Zuzga added that a public hearing will be scheduled for the December Council meeting to discuss allowing golf carts or O.R.V.’s on Village streets.
In addition, an open house for retiring street department employee Dave Green has been scheduled for December 12 from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the Village office.
