COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Bronson area man has been charged in Branch County District Court with 12 counts of criminal sexual conduct.
38-year old Neil Leroy Modert, who lives on Orland Road in Noble Township, was arrested by Michigan State Police at his home Wednesday night and arraigned yesterday on 11 counts of 1st degree CSC and one count of 2nd degree CSC.
According to investigators, the alleged crimes took place over a ten year period beginning in 2008 with the last assault of a 13-year-old girl allegedly taking place in January of 2018.
Troopers say there were three alleged victims, two girls and a boy.
Authorities say the investigation into Modert’s alleged crimes began in April, when the 13-year-old informed her mother what allegedly happened.
The mother then reported the case to Bronson Police, who then contacted Michigan State Police.
Modert is being held at the Branch County jail on $450,000 bond with a District Court probable cause hearing scheduled for December 13, 2018.
In 2015, Modert was arrested after a standoff at his home with State Police and faced four felony counts. A plea bargain resulted in a guilty plea to felonious assault and domestic violence and he served six months in the county jail.
