KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — There has been a sudden burst of PFAS related news in the last 24-hours.
SNYDER’S PFAS RESPONSE PLAN:
Governor Rick Snyder has issued an executive directive for the state to develop a readiness plan to manage the coordination between state and local agencies when PFAS contamination is discovered in a community.
It will be jointly developed by officials from the Michigan PFAS Action Response Team and local health officials.
PFAS HEARINGS IN MICHIGAN:
The EPA has announced plans for two hearings in Michigan after pressure from Michigan lawmakers to come to the state.
The first will be in Kalamazoo Friday afternoon, and will be limited to input from 18 local officials who have been invited to speak.
There is no place for public input on the agenda which runs from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Expo Center.
The time and place for the second hearing in Michigan has not been announced.
PARCHMENT UPDATES:
Tuesday night Parchment Mayor Robert Britigan thanked Kalamazoo County for their role in the PFAS response in that community, but there is still a lot of testing ahead.
Georgia Pacific has reportedly agreed to help finance the monitoring wells to get a better handle on where the plume of contaminants is moving.
A permanent solution for homeowners with contaminated private wells is still a work in progress.
