CHARLOTTE, NC (WTVB) – Hendrick Motorsports is splitting up Jimmie Johnson and crew chief Chad Knaus after the two had partnered together for 17 seasons – ending the longest pairing in NASCAR.
Johnson and Knaus won their record-tying seventh NASCAR title in 2016, but the two have not won a race in 17 months and were knocked out of the playoffs in the first round.
Johnson will be joined by former Hendrick employee Kevin Meendering, while Knaus next year will crew chief William Byron.
