HILLSDALE, MI (WTVB) – The Hillsdale County Sheriff’s Department is telling residents to be alert and cautious about the most recent “Text Messaging”, “Phone” and “Email Scams”.
Hillsdale County Sheriff Tim Parker says courts and local Law Enforcement have received numerous complaints in the past few weeks of a new “Text Messaging” scam where individuals are receiving text messages advising them they need to pay a ticket or court fee or they will be arrested.
Parker says this is not true and will never be true. The courts, government entity or law Enforcement will never send you such a text message in which you would have to pay a fine immediately and if you don’t, they have a warrant for your arrest.
Parker says the scammers are using “local” phone numbers to our area, in an attempt to get more residents to answer their phone and scam residents out of money.
Residents are reminded to never give out your personal information and/or bank account information over the phone or online in any way.
