KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — The Kalamazoo City Commission will be seeking reimbursement from the state of Michigan for the cost of joining the rescue mission to restore clean water to the City of Parchment.
Within hours of the discovery of unacceptably high levels of PFAS in the Parchment Municipal Water System, the City of Kalamazoo had pumper trucks from its fire department flushing the water system with clean water.
Over the next month, the city continued to install equipment to connect the Parchment System with the regional water operation owned by Kalamazoo.
Commissioners have authorized Utility Director James Baker to ask for up to a million dollars from the state, which has a Disaster and Emergency Contingency Fund just for events like this.
