COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – An Ovid Township woman, who was facing four criminal charges following a break in at Rick’s Party Store and the subsequent crashing of her vehicle into the Coldwater Walmart store on the morning of May 19, 2018, has been found to be insane at time of the incidents.
37-year-old Sarah Siler entered a plea of not guilty by reason of insanity during her Branch County Circuit Court arraignment on Monday.
Judge Bill O’Grady accepted the plea and after reviewing reports from forensic doctors and the police, he ruled that Siler was insane when the bizarre incidents took place.
She will be committed to the Center of Forensic Psychiatry for up to 60 days. After diagnostic examinations to make sure she is not a threat to society, she will be brought before the Probate Court for further supervision.
Siler was charged with two counts of breaking and entering with intent, terrorism and assault with a weapon.
It was alleged that Siler broke into Rick’s where several items were taken. A few minutes later, Siler’s vehicle crashed through the east entrance of the Walmart store and came to a stop near the pharmacy. A customer suffered a minor injury but refused medical treatment.
Her District Court hearings were delayed until it was determined in late July that Siler was competent to stand trial.
