PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The City Manager of Portage is getting a 10% raise and a $7,500 bonus after a good year in the city.
Larry Shaffer and his staff facilitated the tax breaks for big investments by Stryker and Pfizer, generated new ordinances to regulate medical marijuana and other accomplishments.
Council Member Claudette Reid said because it was a special year, he should get a smaller raise and a bigger bonus, that would give him the same financial boost, but just for this year.
But the Council voted 5 to 2 to stick with the original recommendation from the Manager Evaluation committee.
It brings his salary to $165,000/year.
