UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – A Union City man was taken into custody Saturday while he was hiding from police in a closet, after they earlier tried to serve him with a warrant.
Union City Police Chief Chris Mathis says the man ran from one of his officers when he tried to serve him with a warrant from Branch County Friend of the Court and for failure to appear.
The 28-year-old man ran to his residence in the 300 block of Calhoun Street where Mathis said he hid in a closet underneath some clothes.
Since the home was on the Calhoun County side of the county line, Union City Police and Michigan State Police had to get a search warrant from the Calhoun County court system in order to go inside the house.
After a couple of hours, police got the warrant and went inside, where they found the man hiding in the closet. He was arrested and taken to the Branch County Jail, where was booked on the warrants as well as a count of resisting and obstructing.
