GRAND RAPIDS (WKZO AM/FM) — A Kent County man has been formally charged with two counts of open murder and two counts of Felony murder for allegedly beating his mother and father in-law to death in their home near Caledonia.
33-year-old Nathan Board has a long history of violence, but he also has a long history of mental health problems.
He told officers he had stopped taking his medications. Court documents claim he has confessed to sneaking into the home of 62-year-old Patty and 66-year-old Theodore Syrek and beating them with a blunt object as they lay in bed.
Their daughter had initiated divorce proceedings and he apparently wasn’t coping very well.
His attorney is expected to request a psychiatric exam at his next hearing.
