LANSING (WKZO AM/FM) — The group backing the initiative to legalize recreational marijuana is disputing most of the claims made by law enforcement officials this week that passage of the measure in November would be bad for Michigan.
John Truscott, spokesman for the Coalition to Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol, says for every claim the law enforcers made, they can produce statistics that show the opposite.
He says that crime rates have not risen, teen use has not increased, and that the burden on law enforcement has actually been lifted by the legalization of marijuana, if it’s done right.
The group argues that by regulating the manufacture, sale and distribution of pot and taxing it, the state will be a lot better off than the status quo.
6 press conferences were held around the state on Wednesday with Michigan police, prosecutors and health officials that oppose the legalization.
