STURGIS, MI (WTVB) – A 19-year-old man is in the St. Joseph County Jail after an expected robbery actually turned out to be a domestic assault.
Sturgis Police were called to the 200 block of Susan Avenue just before 2:30 p.m. Wednesday after reports of a burglary. Authorities tracked down the suspect in the backyard of the home and arrested him. He attempted to break free from the officer but was put into the police cruiser.
Investigators later learned that a robbery did not occur but that instead the man assaulted a woman in the home.
The suspect’s name has not been released. He has been charged with resisting an officer, domestic violence, and malicious destruction of property.
