BATTLE CREEK (WKZO AM/FM) — It began with angry words, escalated to fists and ended with gunfire, and now two brothers are facing up to life in prison while their victim lies in a hospital.
Battle Creek Police say the incident began late Monday afternoon at a gas station on East Columbia Avenue in Emmett Township when Filipe Hernandez said something to William Jones’s girlfriend that he did not like.
Jones punched Hernandez several times, and when the couple left, Hernandez and his older brother Ruben followed them to their home on East Kingman Avenue were another argument began. Authorities say the brothers drove off, but returned and fired a single shot, wounding Jones, who is now in fair condition at Bronson Methodist in Kalamazoo.
The Hernandez brothers have both been charged with attempted murder and a gun felony and are being held on $50-thousand dollar bond each.
