KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety Chief Vernon Coakley is recuperating at home after being diagnosed with COVID-19 Wednesday evening.
In a press release issued by the City of Kalamazoo Thursday, Coakley said “My COVID-19 diagnosis is an important reminder for our community to remain vigilant and continue taking the proper precautions to slow the spread of COVID-19. I will be self-isolating until I am cleared by medical professionals and will follow their guidance.”
“We wish Chief Coakley a speedy recovery and will provide updates on his condition when they become available,” said City Manager Jim Ritsema. “The health and safety of our employees and the residents of Kalamazoo remain our top priority, and I encourage everyone to take the proper precautions to slow the spread of COVID-19, including wearing masks, washing their hands often and practicing social distancing.”
As of December 9, the Kalamazoo County Health and Community Services Department has reported over 10,000 cases of COVID-19 in Kalamazoo County.
