PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Portage City Council has picked the current City Manager in Grand Haven to take over the same role in their community, if he can pass a final screening.
In Portage, the Mayor makes the recommendation and the City Council confirms her choice. Mayor Patricia Randall chose 58-year-old Patrick McGinnis, but considering the field of candidates, she said it was a tough choice.
Most of the council agreed that McGinnis narrowly edged out the competition when it came to his experience in dealing with the sort of the challenges faced by Portage.
Terry Urban preferred Peter Dame because of his ideas on how to plan for the future of the Crossroads, but he said it was close and opted to vote for McGinnis in the end.
If McGinnis can pass a final background check and successfully negotiate an employment contract, he will be formally hired at a subsequent meeting.
