I was tired of waiting for someone (preferably a boy) to ask me to go to the movies. The last time I went to a movie theater was months before Covid hit our country with a vengeance.
I love going to the movies: the smell of the popcorn, the larger-than-life movie posters, and even looking forward to a tummy ache. I’m not sure why I waited so long to take myself out on a movie date, but I had.
After a particularly awful day at work, I just didn’t want to go home. It seemed like all I ever do is go to work, go home, stop at the grocery store, repeat. Feeling hurt by the day and the idea of going home to a frozen dinner was just not appealing. I needed to stop this night of “boo-hoo, poor me.” Then suddenly it hit me: going to the movies!
I had been wanting to see Mark Wahlberg’s latest flick, “Flight Risk,” so I did just that! I caught the 8:20 showing, had a hot dog and soda for dinner, followed by a bucket of popcorn (yes, the upset tummy did occur).
I was over the moon excited as I walked into Cinema 7. The smell was just as delicious as I remembered. I got my goodies and off I went to my seat, and oh, what a seat it was! A leather recliner that was more comfortable than any piece of furniture I own. It was at that point I realized why they don’t serve drinks at the show. The chairs are so comfy that with a cocktail, you take the risk of falling asleep. The atmosphere was perfect, and the film started.
Now, I knew that Marky Mark was starring in the film, and I adore him, but what I didn’t know was this: Topher Grace, a.k.a. Eric Forman from “That 70’s Show,” was also starring in the flick as well! To top it off, Mel Gibson was the director as well as producer. All I could think was, “Wow!”
The movie started, and I enjoyed every second of it! Was it an award-winning film? Heck no! The plot was predictable, the lines campy, and the tension they tried to portray fell short. Yet, I loved it! The acting was great, and it was weird to see Mark Wahlberg bald (he really did have his head shaved for the part). The lead lady was played by Michelle Dockery; her role was that of U.S. Marshal Madalyn Harris, and she was a badass. You never saw the Marshal’s boss; you only heard her voice. Her voice was that of Leah Remini…Bam…mind blown.
I stayed until after the credits rolled and the lights came on, and no, not because I fell asleep. It was because I wanted to drink in every second.
I have to say overall the movie was fun, and watching a flick is something special! It was a diary-worthy date. “Hooray for Hollywood!”
