KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Over 600 electric crews worked through the night to finish restoring the hardest-hit communities, mostly in Calhoun, Kalamazoo and St. Joseph counties, after strong winds knocked out power late Monday afternoon.
Consumers Energy says it has returned power to many of roughly 90,000 customers that were affected. As of early Wednesday, 12,192 were still without power. Calhoun County had the most outages with 5,376 customers, with 3,172 in St. Joseph County, and 2,728 in Kalamazoo County.
“We’re grateful for the patience and understanding of our customers these last 24 hours. We understand it’s a hardship to lose power, which is what drives our determination as safely and efficiently as we can,” said Norm Kapala, one of Consumers Energy’s officers in charge for restoration. “To those who are still without power, know that we are standing with you and not stopping until our job is done.”
Consumers Energy continues to operate mobile storm units and command centers in both Battle Creek and the Kalamazoo area, putting equipment and people into the field to speed up the restoration process.
