PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A teenager is dead and another man injured at a party in Portage early Saturday morning.
At 12:11 a.m., the Portage Department of Public Safety responded to reports of gunshots in the 2100 block of Jacamar Court.
Responding officers located a 33-year-old Portage resident near the scene sufferingfrom multiple gunshot wounds. Officers immediately rendered first aid and the victim
was transported to Beacon Hospital by Life Ambulance. He was treated
for non-life-threatening injuries and released.
Approximately 10 minutes after the initial call, a second victim, a 19-year-old Kalamazoo resident, arrived at Bronson Hospital by private vehicle. Police say despite lifesaving efforts, he later died from his injuries.
The Portage Department of Public Safety says their preliminary investigation indicates a large party was taking place near the parking lot where the shooting occurred.
They say detectives are actively investigating the circumstances
surrounding the incident, and the motive remains unknown.
The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
