LEIGHTON TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Sept. 10, 2026) – A Kentwood man has been formally charged in a Labor Day crash that killed a passenger near Moline.
On Wednesday, Jamie Lee Wannacott was arraigned in 57th District Court, Allegan, on a single count of operating while intoxicated causing death.
First responders were dispatched shortly after 2 AM to the intersection of 146th Avenue and 6th Street, just off of Green Lake. It was determined that an eastbound SUV failed to negotiate a right turn as the roadway bent to the south and crashed. Alcohol, speed, and lack of seatbelt usage were all factors in the incident.
Rescuers attempted to revive the passenger at the scene but were unsuccessful, while Wannacott was not hurt, but was taken to the Allegan County Jail. The passenger has yet to be publicly identified, as the investigation into the incident continues.
