GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The first debate in the U.S. Senate race in Michigan was combative between Republican Mike Rogers and Democrat Dr. Abdul El-Sayed.
The two bickered almost constantly throughout the hour debate, with topics ranging from tariffs and the war in Iran to where they own homes, their finances, how many yachts they may or may not have owned and whether or not El-Sayed is connected to groups that support terrorist organizations.
El-Sayed challenged Rogers to “go ahead and say it” when he was trying to connect him to the Muslim Brotherhood, Hamas, Hezbollah, and Al-Qaeda.
Rogers did not answer when asked repeatedly after the debate if he had evidence to substantiate those links.
El-Sayed said he didn’t dispute Rogers’ claims because it was “about trying to point to somebody whose name is different to make all kinds of hearsay accusations that are just not worth the dignity of a response.”
