LEROY TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A 35-year-old Leroy Township man has died after a standoff with the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office and Battle Creek Police Department.
Around 5:30 p.m. Monday, Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office deputies executed a search arrant and a probation violation warrant at a home on Running Deer Ridge in Leroy Township stemming from a domestic situation on Sunday involving Travis Barker and his parents.
The 35-year-old had guns in violation of his probation.
The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Special Response Team deployed a drone to assess te situation, and shots were fired from inside the home. Specialized response vehicles belonging to the sheriff’s office and Battle Creek police were shot, and two sheriff’s office drones were shot down.
Neighbors were advised to either shelter in place or evacuate.
A Battle Creek police officer fired a shot from their specialized response vehicle, and a fire quickly engulfed the home and prevented officers from immediately confirming Baker’s condition.
He was subsequently confirmed to have died, but the cause of his death has not been disclosed.
There is no ongoing threat to neighboring residents related to this incident.
The circumstances surrounding the officer-involved shooting and structure fire remain under investigation.
