KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – State Senator Sean McCann has beaten incumbent Republican Congressman Bill Huizenga.
That’s according to MIRSNews.com in Lansing, who says McCann bested Huizenga by around 6,500 votes.
The win by the Democrat means Michigan Republicans will have just four seats in the U.S. House in the next term, their smallest delegation since 1884.
McCann received an endorsement in the tail end of the campaign from Republican former Holland Mayor Phil Tanis, who had run in the Republican primary against Huizenga.
He won Kalamazoo County by a huge margin, 74,299 to 39,793. McCann also won in Berrien and Calhoun counties, while Huizenga won in Allegan, Ottawa and Van Buren counties.
Huizenga has served nine terms in the U.S. House.
