COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – One of three women from Hillsdale who were charged with shoplifting over $1,700 worth of items from the Meijer and Wal-Mart stores in Coldwater last Thanksgiving night was sentenced Monday in Branch County Circuit Court.
50-year-old Tamera Lynn Karpanai was given a sentence of between 23 months and five years after she entered a guilty plea to first degree retail fraud.
Three other charges were dismissed by prosecutors in exchange for the plea along with an habitual offender sentencing enhancement.
Karpanai was given credit for 193 days served in the Branch County Jail. Her restitution amount will be determined at a later date.
Court documents indicate three juvenile girls were with the three adults at the time of the incident.
