LEONIDAS, MI (WTVB) – A woman who was killed by her estranged husband in 2010 will finally be laid to rest this weekend. The Schipper Funeral Home in Colon has posted on its web site www.schipperfuneralhome.com that a graveside service has been scheduled for 1:00 p.m. this Saturday afternoon at the Leonidas Cemetery for Venus Stewart.
Her body had been missing for over eight years until it was found October 22, 2018 in a shallow grave near Fulton after authorities were led there by her estranged husband Doug. After years of denial, Doug Stewart finally admitted to the Michigan State Police he killed her and disposed of the body.
Venus McComb Stewart was born August 4, 1977 in Coldwater, Michigan. Her parents were Larry and Therese McComb.
She graduated Bronson High School in 1992 and later earned a bachelor’s degree in law enforcement at Western Michigan University.
She had also worked in the fraud department at PNC bank.
Venus Stewart went missing from outside her parent’s home in Colon Township in April 2010. The disappearance followed a bitter custody dispute. Doug Stewart was convicted of murder by a St. Joseph County jury in 2011 at the end of a three week trial. He is now serving a life prison sentence.
