KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — A Kalamazoo County Judge has sentenced Jordan Waire of Muskegon to mandatory life without parole for the felony murder of WMU Student Jacob Jones.
The killing occured during a drug rip-off at the SoHo Apartments in December of 2016.
Waire’s attorney argued at trial that it was not intentional and that Waire was trying to pistol whip Jones when the gun went off and shot Jones in the head.
It may not have been intentional, but it did take place during the commission of another crime which means mandatory life behind bars.
Waire talked WMU basketball player Joeviair Kennedy, a high school teammate into participating in the crime.
Kennedy was also tried for murder, but the jury opted to only find him guilty of armed robbery.
He could still face a long prison term when he is sentenced in July.
