STURGIS TOWNSHIP (WKZO AM/FM) — A motorcyclist is dead and 2 others are recovering after a crash in St. Joseph County.
First responders were called to Fawn River Road near Balk Road in Sturgis Township just before 3 p.m. Friday and discovered a motorcycle that collided with a Jeep which was turning into a driveway.
The motorcyclists, 20-year-old Juan Aguilar-Reyes from Sturgis, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Jeep driver, 39-year-old Marcy Gayheart from Sturgis and her 15-year-old daughter were injured.
Gayheart was airlifted from the scene and the young girl was rushed to the hospital, treated, and released.
Speed is believed to be a factor in the crash.
Reyes was wearing a helmet at the time and the two in the Jeep did have seatbelts on when the airbags deployed.
