KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — UPDATE: Police have arrested a Grand Rapids man in shooting death of a Kalamazoo man.
Around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20th, police responded to a report of a man down in the roadway of Mable Street near Cobb Avenue.
The victim was identified as 54-year-old Roosevelt Thompson, originally from Alabama. Efforts to revive Thompson were unsuccessful.
Information was developed by investigators to find a suspect, which led them to the arrest of 31-year-old Kalamazoo man Michael Thigpen. Police say Thigpen is from Kalamazoo originally, but lives in Grand Rapids now.
Thigpen has been arrested and arraigned for the charges of Open Murder, two counts of Felony Firearm, and one count of Felon in Possession of a Firearm.

A Kalamazoo man is dead after a suspected shooting on the city’s Northside.
Kalamazoo Public Safety officers were called to the 700 block of Mable Street near Cobb Avenue around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday after a report of a man down in the roadway.
That’s where they found the victim who appeared to have been struck by gunfire.
The 54-year-old Kalamazoo man was pronounced dead at the scene.
So far there is no word if anyone is in custody at this time or if there is any description information on a suspect. An investigation is still underway.
