ALBION TOWNSHIP, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – A 36-year-old Homer resident was arrested and had to be rescued from a Albion Township lake on Saturday afternoon after he tried to get away from authorities.
The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office says their deputies conducted a traffic stop on a suspicious vehicle in 24000 block of J Drive S in Albion Township at 4:00 p.m..
During the traffic stop, the passenger of the vehicle fled on foot. Deputies found out the subject had multiple warrants out of several different counties.
A K-9 deputy was deployed and tracked the suspect into a nearby lake. The suspect had waded out into chest high water and the Sheriff’s Department says he refused to come out.
Deputies quickly requested assistance from Albion Township Fire, Homer Township Fire, Marshall City Fire and Albion Department of Public Safety. Deputies deployed a UAV drone in order to establish contact and monitor the subject.
Homer Township firefighters wore protective equipment and swam to the subject. With their assistance, the subject was escorted to the shore where he was immediately transferred to Marshall Area Firefighters Ambulance Authority.
The subject was then transported to a local hospital for hypothermia treatment.
