MOTTVILLE TOWNSHIP, MI (WNWN/WTVB) – An Indiana man was killed Wednesday night in a head on crash on U.S. 12 near Vistula Road in St. Joseph County.
The Michigan State Police from the Wayland post are investigating the crash which took place at around 9:00 p.m..
Their preliminary investigation reveal that an older model Mercedes passenger car was travelling eastbound on 12 when it crossed the center lane and struck a westbound semi tractor-trailer head-on.
The driver of the Mercedes was identified as 41-year-old Eric Herald. He succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the semi tractor-trailer, a 47-year-old man from Ontario, Canada, was uninjured in the crash. He was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash.
The Michigan State Police were assisted by White Pigeon Police, the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department, fire departments from White Pigeon and Constantine and Life Care EMS.
The crash remains open pending further investigation.
