KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Two teens are in custody afer shots were fired in downtown Kalamazoo Saturday night.
At approximately 8:00 p.m. officers with the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety responded to a report of shots fired in the 100 block of East Michigan Avenue.
KDPS says responding officers secured the scene and detained several individuals for additional questioning.
A canvass for potential witnesses and evidence was conducted. KDPS officers utilized cameras and witness information to assist in locating and identifying additional parties involved and evidence.
After a brief foot pursuit, one 16-year-old male was taken into custody, with one firearm was recovered and seized as evidence. A second 16-year-old male was arrested on an Apprehension and Detention Order. Both males were lodged at the Kalamazoo County Juvenile Home. No injuries have been reported.
This incident resulted in significant police presence in the downtown area.
