KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Governor Gretchen Whitmer will sign an executive order this afternoon in Kalamazoo re-establishing the Gun Violence Prevention Task Force.
The order will also lay out an approach to the recommendations given by the Gun Violence Prevention Task Force in its final report.
Whitmer will be joined by Michigan’s chief medical executive Dr. Natasha Bagdasarian and Kalamazoo County Sheriff Richard Fuller for the executive order signing.
She signed what her office calls commonsense gun violence prevention bills in April 2023 that established universal background checks for all gun purchases along with safe storage requirements.
In May and November 2023, Whitmer signed bills banning criminals and people who are a danger to themselves or others from possessing firearms.
