PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Ramona Park Beach in Portage is temporarily closed due to high levels of E. coli found in the swimming area in Long Lake.
The Kalamazoo County Health and Community Services Department found the elevated levels when they were doing their weekly water testing.
The city of Portage says the beach is closed until the water samples meet Michigan Water Quality Standards.
Water samples collected Tuesday had E. coli levels of 333.29 per 100 milliliters, exceeding the total body contact standards of 300 E. coli per 100 ml.
More samples will be taken and tested.
Questions concerning the water sampling program at Ramona Park Beach or Michigan Water Quality Standards may be directed to the Kalamazoo County Health and Community Services Department at (269) 373-5337.
