KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Kalamazoo County has opened a comment period on a draft Climate Action Master Plan to establish a guide for environmental policies for the next few decades.
The extensive and comprehensive 71-page document was compiled over a three-year period by climate stability manager Taylor Van Winkle, who consulted with experts, hundreds of residents and local leaders.
It lays out the goals and benchmarks for making the county a cleaner and more breathable place to live.
It includes a climate vulnerability assessment, laying out the problem, and offers six overarching goals with 30 different strategies, calling for 85 actions, with three alternative approaches for each action to address the problems caused by climate change.
The report also assesses the capacity of local jurisdictions to respond to climate changes, and to do it with environmental justice in mind.
The full report is accessible at the county’s website.
The deadline for making comments on the report is July 16th.
